Sam Johnston, soapmaker

Sam Johnston, soapmaker

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Packaging artisan handcraft and Highland cultural cues in a professional range that attracts both savvy consumers and demanding hospitality buyers.

Sam is an experienced soapmaker who has already launched a successful soap brand in the Western Isles before going off to do other things. Coming back to the Highlands, she wanted a brand with a strong sense of place, a connection to nature to reflect her organic and natural ingredients, and a distinctive shelf presence in retail outlets across Scotland.

How we helped

Branding with purpose

We looked for a name that would say what the product was and communicate the wider product range. Marrying it with a reference to the Gaelic name for the Great Glen, Glen Mhor, we came up with soap&mhor, an invitation to tell the backstory of the Highlands on pack, on POS and on the website.

Design with intent

From the very beginning Sam was clear she wanted a product range with a clear design system and a natural look and feel. We chose a natural colour palette and illustrations of the botanicals used in the recipes, combining them with a distinctive wordmark that adapts well to print, physical and digital applications.
